At around 2,100 m, Mukteshwar is a pine-scented ridge crowned by a 350-year-old Shiva temple and the dramatic Chauli Ki Jali cliffs — with one of Kumaon's widest sweeps of the Himalayan snow line. A longer day trip from Blessed Aura, and best on a clear morning.
Mukteshwar takes its name from Mukteshwar Dham, a 350-year-old temple to Shiva at the very top of the ridge. The short climb to it is rewarded with a near-panoramic view of the greater Himalaya — Nanda Devi, Trishul and Panchachuli strung across the northern sky on clear days.
Just below stand the Chauli Ki Jali cliffs — rock faces and a natural stone 'window' wrapped in local legend, now a favourite for rock-climbing and rappelling. The colonial-era IVRI campus and old orchards give the little town its calm, unhurried air.
